FAQ

Daycare & Boarding

What vaccinations are required?

We require your hound be up-to-date on Rabies, Canine Distemper/Parvo (DHPP) and Kennel Cough (Bordetella). You can upload your pup’s proof of vaccines when you register online and complete your pet’s profile. To ensure the safety of our guests, we require all vaccinations be given by a licensed veterinarian.

Do you have breed restrictions?

We love all dogs at The Hounds & Tap! All well-behaved, healthy, and social dogs are welcome to play as long as they meet our age, vaccine and spay/neuter requirements and pass our compatibility assessment.

How do I get started?

We can’t wait to hangout with you! The first step is to register your hound online, upload vaccine records and complete your pup’s profile.

Once complete, you’ll be able to schedule a compatibility assessment for your dog to use our daycare and boarding services.

What is a compatibility assessment?

Just like humans, each hound is unique! A daycare and open play environment might not be for them. In order to ensure a safe environment for all hounds and humans, each dog must pass a compatibility assessment before joining in on the fun. Our trained humans start with a hands-on meet-and-greet to check for any physical sensitivities. Once your hound is comfortable, we slowly introduce our happy and social hounds one-by-one. We will spend time getting to know them – their personality and likes and dislikes.

Sometimes we all have a bad day! If your dog doesn’t pass the assessment, we are happy to try again another day!

How long does a compatibility assessment take?

Compatibility assessments must be scheduled with a full day of daycare. In addition to the cost of daycare, you will be charged a non-refundable $20 fee for the cost of the assessment. This process allows us to observe how well your hound plays with other dogs and interacts with our trained staff. If, for any reason, you dog does not pass the behavior assessment, you will not be charged for the cost of daycare services.

What is a typical day of daycare like?

During daycare, your dog will rotate through group play, snack and rest time. Dogs are encouraged to participate in structured group activities, as well as play with friends in a safe, supervised environment.

What if I have more than one dog?

We love siblings! We’re happy to accommodate your fur family. Please reach out to us for more information on multi-dog boarding discounts.

If my dog is sick, can they still come to daycare or boarding?

If your hound is not feeling well, we ask that you keep them at home until they feel better. If your pup comes to daycare or boarding sick, we will send them home. You’ll need to have your pup cleared by a veterinarian before bringing them back in for daycare or boarding.

Can dogs get hurt at daycare?

Rest assured we do our very best to prevent injuries. Dogs often use their mouths and paws to play. While having fun with friends, sometimes dogs can experience scratches, small nicks or slight fur loss. Although it is very rare, it is still possible for more serious injuries to occur.

That said, just like humans, not every dog will get along. Our staff receives continued training to thoroughly understand canine body language. If we see that a dog is becoming frustrated, agitated, or aggressive, we will take the appropriate steps to diffuse the situation before it escalates.

What happens if my dog gets sick or injured?

There are always risks when dogs socialize. We take great pride in going above and beyond to make sure our facility is clean and safe. We verify vaccinations for all dogs in our care. We use state-of-the-art cleaning equipment and protocols to prevent the spread of illness. If your dog gets sick or injured while under our care, we will contact you immediately. The health and safety of your dog is our #1 concern. Depending on the situation, we may take your dog to their personal vet or the nearest emergency vet. The cost of this care is the responsibility of the pet parent.

How does meal time work?

Dry Food:
Please bring your dog’s dry food in pre-measured individual sealed bags for each meal. Remember to label each bag with your dog’s name. If you forget, there will be a $5 per day charge to measure and serve your pup’s meals.

Wet Food:
Please bring your dog’s wet food in the original sealed container with the feeding instructions written on the container. Please label the container with your dog’s name.

No need to bring food or water bowls – we provide stainless steel bowls that are sanitized daily.

If your dog runs out of food during their stay, we will provide our house dry dog food at $5/meal. This will be added to the final charge for your dog’s stay.

If my dog needs medication, what should I do?

We are happy to administer oral or topical medications, free of charge. At this time, we do not give any injected medications (unless approved with staff). Medications must be in the original container with the prescription label, clearly showing dosage instructions.

What should my hound bring with them for boarding?

Please bring your pre-measured dry dog food in individual sealed bags for each serving. If your dog eats wet food, please bring the food in the original sealed container with the feeding instructions written on the container. Don’t forget to label their name on your dog’s food containers. No need to bring food or water bowls – we provide stainless steel bowls that are sanitized daily.

If you dog takes medication, we are happy to administer oral medications, free of charge. All medications must be in the original container with the prescription label, clearly showing dosage instructions.

Leave the rest to us! We will provide a cozy blanket, relaxing music and aromatherapy for your pup. If there is something special your dog would like as a reminder of home, please speak with our trained staff. We will do our very best to accommodate.

Can I take a tour?

Yes! We would love to show you around! Contact us to schedule a tour.

Will my dog be tired after daycare?

After a full day of play, it is normal that your dog will come home tired. They may sleep more than usual and they may even skip a meal.

Don’t be surprised if your dog comes home thirsty. We always have fresh water available but they still might arrive home looking for a drink.

Also, don’t worry if your dog’s paws are sensitive. If they are new to daycare, it is common for their paw pads to be sore after running and playing all day. Over time, your dog’s pads will strengthen.

What are the pick-up and drop off hours for daycare and boarding?
  • Standard Drop-off 7am – 9am.
  • Standard Pick-up 4:30pm – 7pm.
  • Late pick-up after 7pm will incur a $15 charge.
  • If your hound isn’t picked up by 7:15 pm, we will charge for an overnight stay and get them fed and settled into a suite for the night.
  • Saturday-Sunday overnight boarding by appointment only.
Anything I should know if I’m boarding over a holiday?

A holiday time period is 3 days prior and 3 days after the actual date of the Holiday.

In order to accommodate others, a 2 night minimum stay is required.

To guarantee a reservation, we require a 50% deposit at the time of reservation.

    • We will refund your deposit if you cancel 72 hours prior to your scheduled vacation stay.
    • You forfeit your deposit if you fail to cancel 72 hours prior to or do not show up for your scheduled vacation stay.
Does a staff member stay overnight with my dog?

After a fun day of play, a good night’s sleep is crucial for your hound. Studies show that hounds sleep better at night without a human present. Our facility has 24/7 monitored fire and security alarms. The facility is temperature controlled and has a sprinkler system in case of emergency. The staff will be notified if there are any issues after hours and can get there quickly if needed.

Grooming

What kind of grooming services do you offer?

We can do it all – from a bath and blow dry or a simple nail trim to a full spa treatment, leave the pampering to us!

Why are prices different for each dog?

Just like humans, each hound is unique. Our loving and affectionate groomers will individualize your dog’s spa experience based on his/her size, breed, coat and needs. The price, just like your pup, is personalized. Our team will meet with you at drop off to discuss your preferences and provide a time estimate prior to services.

What vaccinations are required?

Your dog must be up-to-date on the Rabies, Canine Distemper/Parvo (DHPP) and Kennel Cough (Bordetella) vaccines. If you are only visiting The Hounds & Tap for our grooming services, you do not need to pass the compatibility assessment.

How often should I have my dog groomed?

A lot depends on the pet’s lifestyle and living conditions. As a general guide, we suggest every 4-6 weeks for dogs that need a haircut.

How often should I get my dog's nails trimmed?

Your hound’s nails should be trimmed monthly. If you would like their nails shorter, we recommend trimming nails every two weeks. This will help the vein recede in the nail.

What if my dog doesn't get along with other dogs?

We have a grooming room which allows us to keep your dog separate from our daycare, boarding and dog park hounds.

    • Proof of vaccinations: Rabies, Canine Distemper/Parvo (DHPP) and Kennel Cough (Bordetella)

Do you have a small dog area?

Yes! We have separate spaces both inside and out for our small hound friends.

Are the Parks and Tavern monitored?

Our Humans are stationed throughout the tavern & park to ensure the best experience possible. We require all visitors to monitor, clean up after and stay with their dog at all times.

Do I need to clean up after my dog?

Although our Humans are on site to monitor the hounds, we require owners pick up after their dogs. We offer plenty of supplies and equipment to keep the area fresh and clean.

My dog has a favorite toy or treat. Can I bring it?

Our own dogs love their toys and treats too, but we don’t allow these items into the park. This can cause some dogs to become aggressive toward other hounds or humans.

How old do I need to be to hangout in the Tavern space and dog parks?

No human under the age of 16 is allowed in the Tavern or Dog Parks except on Sundays. Humans must be 21 or older to order and purchase alcohol. A valid State or Government-issued ID is required and will be checked.

How many dogs can I bring?

We allow (2) dogs per human.

Whether you own a dog or not, all dog-loving humans are welcome and may enter for free. No one under the age of 21 is allowed to purchase alcohol.

Can I smoke or vape at The Hounds & Tap?

Smoking and vaping is not allowed on the premises as cigarette butts and second-hand smoke are hazardous to hounds (and humans).

Do you serve food?

Yes and No … While we don’t serve food, we have rotating local food trucks. Check out our events page and follow us on social media to stay up-to-date on our food truck schedule.

Can I bring in outside food and drinks?

Yes, we offer a variety of options including non-alcoholic beers, cocktails, sparkly water, lemonade, iced tea & Pepsi products.

What if I have to go potty? Can I take my dog with me?

Yes! We love parties—especially hound birthday parties! Contact us and we’ll coordinate the fun with you
